Warning - Your Selected Date Field Could Cause Double-Crediting

Applicability
This warning applies to the following situation:

Impact
This may result in double-payment of commissions. Indeed, as transactions are updated, the last modified date keeps changing, yielding repeat commissions in multiple calculation periods.

Explanations
For example, consider the following scenario:
  • You configure an incentive plan whose period is quarterly
  • Transactions for Q1 are imported into SalesCookie, and eligible for Q1 incentive calculations
  • During Q2, a change is made to some Q1 transactions within your source system (ex: SalesForce)
  • The Q1 transaction now has a "last modified" date which is in Q2
  • The automatic import process detects the change, and updates the transaction in SalesCookie
  • The same transaction now has a transaction date, making it eligible again for Q2 incentives!

Resolution
To fix this issue, either:
  • Select a different date field - one indicating when the transaction is eligible for commissions (NOT when the transaction was last updated)
  • Keep using your selected date field, but make absolutely sure transactions are "locked" (i.e. the selected date cannot be updated in the source system (ex: SalesForce)
