How Can I Limit QuickBooks Desktop Syncs To Night Time?

Our QuickBooks data sync is designed to be very efficient and incremental. Every 15 minutes, we query for invoices / sales receipts / credit memos which have been created or updated since the last sync cycle. This ensures we do not send all records each time (only new and updated records).

On older PCs however, this can still affect the user's experience. Unfortunately, QuickBooks is NOT able to process data requests in the background. Instead, QuickBooks freezes the interface while we query data. In technical terms, this means the main UI thread is also used to execute API requests, which is considered poor software design. As a result of this poor implementation from QuickBooks, you may observe a slowdown or mouse flickering while using QuickBooks.

To avoid this problem enable night-time synchronization: 
  1. Go to the computer on which the QuickBooks synchronizer was installed
  2. Type Windows-R
  3. Type cmd.exe
  4. Note the path (ex: C:\Users\John2)
  5. Append \AppData\Roaming\SalesCookie to this path
  6. Edit the .config file in this location
  7. Add a line with RunAtNight=1
  8. Save
We will stop any synchronization activity from 8 AM to 7 PM local time.
