How Are Revenue vs. Spend Insights Calculated?
In some workspaces, we may display two summary widgets:
- Total Spend widget
- Spend vs. Revenue widget
Those 2 widgets are only intended to provide a quick and basic overview of how commission spend relates to revenue over time.
If your criteria for identifying revenue or spend are complex, you may need to create a custom report or use the following: - For more detailed spend analytics, click on "Payout Reports" under Report > Get Report in the left navigation bar
- For more detailed revenue analytics, click on "Revenue Analytics" under Report > Get Report in the left navigation bar
Commission Spend Widget
Displayed spend is based on payouts within released calculations. You must release rewards on calculations for them to be included. The effective date is each calculation's release date. Manual rewards are included.
Revenue Widget
By default, displayed revenue is based on all transactions within your workspace. Amounts are based on whichever field was mapped to the [Revenue] system category. Effective dates are based on whichever field was mapped to the [Transaction Date] system category.
You may want to further qualify which transactions to include when calculating revenue. For example, suppose that your transactions are opportunities. You only want to count revenue from opportunities whose status is "closed won" (instead of all opportunities).
First, create a saved query under Transactions > All Transactions, and give is a name. In the example below, our saved query is limited to records of type "Opportunities" whose stage is "Closed Won". This allows us to exclude other records or opportunities which were lost.
Second, go to Settings > Advanced, choose your saved query, and save. In the example below, we selected a saved query called "Opportunities". Revenue is now filtered based on the conditions you specified.
Customizing The Effective Date For Revenue
It is currently NOT possible to customize the effective date field for the revenue widget. However, this feature is available in Revenue Analytics (under Report > Get Report in the left navigation bar). In Revenue Analytics, you can select both a saved query and an effective date field, as shown below.
Missing Revenue Widget?
We may not display the revenue widget if you have transactions in multiple currencies. Suppose that you have 100,000 transactions, each in a different currency, amount, and date. It would take too long to convert 100,000 amounts using live rates.
