Configuration Experiment #T4

Configuration Experiment #T4

Goal
The goal of this experiment is to help you understand the time dimension in calculation mechanics. For this challenge, you will use a production workspace and enter some configuration. When asked to write down something, please copy the value to a document (along with the step #), as you will be using those values later on.

Difficulty
Easy.

Preparation
Create a CSV file with the following:
  • Date,Unique ID,Owner,Revenue
  • 2021-01-01,ID-1,Daniel Martinez,100
  • 2021-01-02,ID-2,Daniel Martinez,100

As you can see, there are 1 transactions in January. All transactions are assigned to "Daniel Martinez" and have a value of 100.

Steps
  1. Go to Account > My Workspaces
  2. Create a production workspace
  3. Go to Users > Add Users
  4. Add a user with email DanielMartinez@xyz.com
  5. Go to Transactions > Add Transactions
  6. Import your CSV file
  7. Go to Plans > All Plans
  8. Create plan "Test"
    1. Choose "Monthly"
    2. Choose "By Individual"
    3. Choose "All Workspace Users"
    4. Choose "Revenue" > "Raw Value"
    5. Choose "As Percentages Of A Fixed Quota" with a quota of 80
    6. Add two attainment levels
      1. For the lower level, set the attainment threshold to 0% of quota
      2. For the higher level, set the attainment threshold to 100% of quota
      3. Make both levels cumulative
    7. Add a per-transaction reward to each attainment level
      1. For the lower level, pay 5% of revenue
      2. For the higher level, pay 10% of revenue
      3. Make sure to select "To Transactions At This Attainment Level" for both
      4.
  9. Create the plan
  10. Go to Calculations > All Calculations
  11. Run a calculation for January 2021
  12. Open the calculation
    1. Write down the total payout
    2. What is the commission percentage paid on each deal (export credits)?
    3. Did you expect this payout given a quota of 80 and 2 transactions worth 100?
    4. Go to the rewards tab
    5. Open the incentive statement
  13. Go to Plans > All Plans
  14. Edit plan "Test"
  15. Go to the Calculations tab
  16. Enable this option

  17. Save plan changes
  18. Go to Calculations > All Calculations
  19. Re-run the calculation (with delete)
  20. Open the calculation
    1. Write down the total payout
    2. Is it the same as previously?
    3. What is the commission percentage paid on each deal (export credits)?
    4. Did you expect this payout given a quota of 80 and 2 transactions worth 100?
    5. Go to the rewards tab
    6. Open the incentive statement
    7. Do you notice any difference?
  21. Go to Plans > All Plans
  22. Edit plan "Test"
  23. Go to the Calculations tab
  24. Enable this option

  25. Save plan changes
  26. Go to Calculations > All Calculations
  27. Re-run the calculation (with delete)
  28. Open the calculation
  29. Write down the total payout
    1. Is it the same as previously?
    2. What is the commission percentage paid on each deal (export credits)?
    3. Did you expect this payout given a quota of 80 and 2 transactions worth 100?
    4. Go to the rewards tab
    5. Open the incentive statement
    6. Do you notice any difference?
  30. Go to Plans > All Plans
  31. Edit plan "Test"
  32. Go to the Incentives tab
  33. Change per-transaction formulas to include an explanation of 'Tier 1' / 'Tier 2'

  34. Go to the Calculations tab
  35. Enable this option

  36. Save plan changes
  37. Go to Calculations > All Calculations
  38. Re-run the calculation (with delete)
  39. Open the calculation
  40. Write down the total payout
    1. Is it the same as previously?
    2. What is the commission percentage paid on each deal (export credits)?
    3. Did you expect this payout given a quota of 80 and 2 transactions worth 100?
    4. Go to the rewards tab
    5. Open the incentive statement
    6. Do you notice any difference?

Key Learnings
  • We sort transactions by date to determine attainment
  • Some transaction may cross 2 tiers, each tier having a different payout
  • If transaction tier splitting is requested, a transaction which crosses tiers will have a portion paid at the lower tier, and a portion paid at the higher tier
    • Otherwise, transactions which cross tiers will be fully counted towards the higher tier
    • The [calculated_revenue] already specifies the corresponding portion (this works because Revenue was the attainment metric)
    • Tier splitting is important when dealing with large transaction amounts
  • Some options on the Calculations tab can be used to show
    • Commission rates
    • Explanations set within formulas
