Configuration Experiment #C3
Goal
The goal of this experiment is to help you understand how configuration changes impact crediting. For this challenge, you will use a demo workspace and alter the configuration. When asked to write down something, please copy the value to a document (along with the step #), as you will be using those values later on.

Steps
- Create a demo workspace
- Go to Calculations > All Calculations
- Open the calculation
- Go to the Alerts tab
- How many warnings do you see?
- Go to the Credits tab
- Write down how many transactions were credited to "Daniel Martinez"
- Click on "Daniel Martinez" to view credited transactions
- Click on any transaction to edit it
- Write down the transaction's URL
- Change the "Sold By" from "danielmartinez@example.com" to "Hello"
- What do you think this will do?
- Save and select "Allow Overwrites"
- Go to Calculations > All Calculations
- Re-run the calculation (with delete)
- Open the calculation
- Go to the Alerts tab
- How many warnings do you see?
- What does the warning mean?
- Go to the Credits tab
- Write down how many transactions were credited to "Daniel Martinez"
- Is the new total different from your previous one?
- Go to Teams > All Teams
- Delete all teams
- Create a new team called "My Team"
- Set "Daniel Martinez" as the team manager
- Save the team
- Go to the Members tab
- Add "Eric Smith" as a team member
- Add "Veronica Haley" as another team member
- Go to the Aliases tab
- Add an alias of "HELLO" to the team
- Go to Plans > All Plans
- Edit plan "One-Off Sales Contest"
- Go to the Targets tab
- Enter a crediting formula
- Check "First Check If Transactions Can Be Re-Assigned To a Team (advanced)?"
- What do you think this will do?
- Choose "Assign All Credit To Team's Manager"
- What do you think this will do?
- Save plan changes
- Go to Calculations > All Calculations
- Re-run the calculation (with delete)
- Open the calculation
- Go to the Alerts tab
- How many warnings do you see?
- Why is the warning gone?
- Go to the Credits tab
- Write down how many transactions were credited to "Daniel Martinez"
- Is the new total different from your previous one?
- Go to Plans > All Plans
- Edit plan "One-Off Sales Contest"
- Go to the Targets tab
- Choose "Assign Full Credit To All Team Members"
- What do you think this will do?
- Make sure "Include Team Managers" remains unchecked
- Save plan changes
- Go to Calculations > All Calculations
- Re-run the calculation (with delete)
- Go to the Alerts tab
- How many warnings do you see?
- Why is the warning gone?
- Go to the Credits tab
- Write down how many transactions were credited to "Daniel Martinez"
- Is the new total different from your previous one?
- Copy/paste the transaction URL into your browser
- Go to the Credits tab
- Did you expect to see the displayed value?
Key Learnings
- You can achieve crediting of users via teams (level of indirection)
- You can control if crediting goes to team managers, team members, or both
- You have to specify a crediting formula to "force" the text value used for crediting
- Otherwise, the system will use the field mapped to the "Team / Territory" system category
- We could also have specified which crediting field to use instead of a formula
